Christie and Luis live in Texas, but made time to meet me at my studio earlier in the year on a trip east to visit their families and plan their wedding. Luis is in the military, and they planned a Fall wedding at West Point Military Academy. I have photographed weddings at the Thayer Hotel at West Point before, but this wedding was going to be at the West Point Club, which is on the academy’s grounds – new territory for me. I was excited that they decided to take a little time after the ceremony to head over to Trophy Point for some pictures as well. Trophy Point, for those who don’t know, is located on the grounds of West Point and offers some of the best views you will find anywhere in the Hudson Valley. It provides a beautiful look north into the Hudson Highlands.
I had a great time spending the day with Christie, Luis, and their family and friends. Their families were very accommodating which helped make everything run smoothly.
Oh and also, Christie is an amazing organizer! I always ask my wedding clients for a list of the specific groupings of people they would like pictures of during the formal photos. Within a couple hours of asking her for her list, she sent me a spreadsheet with names, ages, how each person was related to them, and the total number of people in each shot. It was even color coded! Amazing! She joked that she went a little overboard with the list, but I thought is was absolutely the best one I have ever seen. It was incredibly helpful for making sure I got all of the important shots. As a wedding photographer, usually when I arrive at a wedding I only know the two people getting married and I have to determine all sorts of relationships and family dynamics very quickly. Every bit of additional information helps!
